Don’t cull badgers DO chip Dogs?!

The British Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Animals has the following campaigns on its home page:

Stop cull on badgers! Find another way to fight the disease they bring to cattle!

Yes!

Stop circus animals!

Right!

Stop breeding animals for their looks – ‘Born to Suffer’

- I’m not sure I’m glad I signed that petition, as reading between the lines, it is not against manipulation of breeds

Stop factory farming – yes!

But on the domestic pets page, I’m wanting to sign campaigns against theirs.

I dislike the term ‘dog ownership’. We are the responsible human. We do not have dominion over other life forms; they are not our property.

Yes we should be responsible for the animals we live with. Yes they should not hurt other creatures.

But how can we suggest achieving that by hurting animals and manipulating them and controlling them – with shades of all the above?!

The RSPCA is pushing for all dogs to be microchipped. I’m not surprised that the police want it, or that vets call for it. There’s a strange relationships between those who seek to minister to animals' medical needs and really allowing the best for animals. I’ve shared my thoughts on putting animals down on my blog – “Justice for Animals”.

This is also justice for animals.

The RSPCA dogchip page is all about control; manipulative statistics using money and children.

We don’t have the right to put unnatural objects in creatures without their consent.

They leap from quoting dog welfare to the unstated penal and regualatory implications. This is in no way about the welfare of dogs.

It’ll involve more dog executions.

If we stopped training animals in the mastery way and used partnership methods, we would discourage the violent behaviours that break out from being suppressed. Animal violence comes from the way they are treated and how the humans around them behave. Being subordinated into our rather military way, animals want to regain their independence and reassert their dominance. We’re reinforcing their pack/leader instinct instead of offering a better way.

How can you call yourself an animal lover and support this? I mean individuals and the veterinary world, and especially the societies meant to protect animals rights.

The RSPCA has suggestions for how to avoid the badger cull.

Can’t it make better ones for dog behaviour?

It's going to put humans off having dogs – I am; and those who are caring and responsible and good at understanding animals.

We need to re-approach our relationship with animals and stop seeing them as non sentient, forcing body altering procedures on them and calling their human friends to be 'responsible' by conforming to and endorsing this (whilst making the health world money).

I urge readers to contact the RSPCA and the other orgs below – or if the equivalent society is similarly suggesting in your country – to ask them to reverse this and think of suggestions which do not make a mockery of their very mission statement.
